Isaiah 1 - 39

The prophet who, according to Josephus, was from royalty and was humbled to preach to the kingdom of Judah about its coming destruction and future redemption.

(NIV)Isaiah 2:2
In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established as the highest of the mountains; it will be exalted above the hills, and all nations will stream to it.

For the book of Isaiah is full of prophecies about Jesus and the will of God in the coming ages.

(NIV)Isaiah 3:8
Jerusalem staggers, Judah is falling; their words and deeds are against the Lord, defying his glorious presence.

(NIV)Isaiah 4:3-4
Those who are left in Zion, who remain in Jerusalem, will be called holy, all who are recorded among the living in Jerusalem. [4] The Lord will wash away the filth of the women of Zion; he will cleanse the bloodstains from Jerusalem by a spirit of judgment and a spirit of fire.

For this prophecy transcends through time and kingdoms. For the Lord's word doesn't leave men neutral. There's always change.

(NIV)Isaiah 5:13
Therefore my people will go into exile for lack of understanding; those of high rank will die of hunger and the common people will be parched with thirst.

(NIV)Isaiah 5:21
Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight.

(NIV)Isaiah 6:5-7
“Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.” [6] Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. [7] With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for. ”

What a sight it must have been to see the glory of the Lord is full flight. For surely we are nothing compared to His glory.

(NIV)Isaiah 6:8
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us? ” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

For God wants all of us to go and be sent by Him and proclaim his holy message.

(NIV)Isaiah 7:7
Yet this is what the Sovereign Lord says: “ ‘It will not take place, it will not happen,

(NIV)Isaiah 7:9
The head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is only Remaliah’s son. If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.’ ”

For God wants us to trust him and believe that He only can rescue us and we only need to stand firm.

(NIV)Isaiah 8:12-13
“Do not call conspiracy everything this people calls a conspiracy; do not fear what they fear, and do not dread it. [13] The Lord Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread.

For truly only the Lord we are to fear.

(NIV)Isaiah 10:21-22
A remnant will return, a remnant of Jacob will return to the Mighty God. [22] Though your people be like the sand by the sea, Israel, only a remnant will return. Destruction has been decreed, overwhelming and righteous.

For truly when Israel was taken captive, only a number of people came back.

(NIV)Isaiah 11:3
and he will delight in the fear of the Lord. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears;

(NIV)Isaiah 11:5
Righteousness will be his belt and faithfulness the sash around his waist.

For does righteousness secure my position in the Lord? For truly I need to always be man of integrity.

(NIV)Isaiah 13:11
I will punish the world for its evil, the wicked for their sins. I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty and will humble the pride of the ruthless.

(NIV)Isaiah 17:14
In the evening, sudden terror! Before the morning, they are gone! This is the portion of those who loot us, the lot of those who plunder us.

Prophecy against Damascus. For truly the zeal of the Lord will destroy those who turn from him.

(NIV)Isaiah 19:21, 25
So the Lord will make himself known to the Egyptians, and in that day they will acknowledge the Lord. They will worship with sacrifices and grain offerings; they will make vows to the Lord and keep them. [25] The Lord Almighty will bless them, saying, “Blessed be Egypt my people, Assyria my handiwork, and Israel my inheritance. ”

The Lord deciding to make Paseka and Egypt his nations. Wow!

(NIV)Isaiah 25:1
Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness you have done wonderful things, things planned long ago.

(NIV)Isaiah 26:4, 9
Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal. [9] My soul yearns for you in the night; in the morning my spirit longs for you. When your judgments come upon the earth, the people of the world learn righteousness.

(NIV)Isaiah 27:13
And in that day a great trumpet will sound. Those who were perishing in Assyria and those who were exiled in Egypt will come and worship the Lord on the holy mountain in Jerusalem.

(NIV)Isaiah 27:13
And in that day a great trumpet will sound. Those who were perishing in Assyria and those who were exiled in Egypt will come and worship the Lord on the holy mountain in Jerusalem.

(NIV)Isaiah 28:29
All this also comes from the Lord Almighty, whose plan is wonderful, whose wisdom is magnificent.

(NIV)Isaiah 29:16
You turn things upside down, as if the potter were thought to be like the clay! Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it, “You did not make me”? Can the pot say to the potter, “You know nothing”?

For God knows best. For He knows me best and shadow right for me. So I always need to seek us counsel and ask for his advice.

(NIV)Isaiah 30:18
Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!

(NIV)Isaiah 33:22
For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our king; it is he who will save us.

(NIV)Isaiah 35:4
say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, do not fear; your God will come, he will come with vengeance; with divine retribution he will come to save you.”

(NIV)Isaiah 37:10
“Say to Hezekiah king of Judah: Do not let the god you depend on deceive you when he says, ‘Jerusalem will not be given into the hands of the king of Assyria.’

Often, Satan causes us to be afraid and doubt whether God still listens to our cry.

(NIV)Isaiah 37:16
“Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, enthroned between the cherubim, you alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.

For in times of troubles and pain, we need to show proper respect to our God.

(NIV)Isaiah 38:7-8, 22
“ ‘This is the Lord’s sign to you that the Lord will do what he has promised: [8] I will make the shadow cast by the sun go back the ten steps it has gone down on the stairway of Ahaz.’ ” So the sunlight went back the ten steps it had gone down. [22] Hezekiah had asked, “What will be the sign that I will go up to the temple of the Lord?”

The Hezekiah found favour in the Lord and in so doing, 15 years was restored to him.

(NIV)Isaiah 39:2
Hezekiah received the envoys gladly and showed them what was in his storehouses---the silver, the gold, the spices, the fine olive oil---his entire armory and everything found among his treasures. There was nothing in his palace or in all his kingdom that Hezekiah did not show them.

The king showed arrogance by allowing the enemy be shown around in his palace. So the very thing that was shown will be taken away. For God hates pride and trusting in ourselves.

My trip back to Europe in ONE word (Part 1/2) - Coronavirus

It was a normal working day on a hot and usually dusty afternoon in Yaounde when I got the call to come and collect my Visa for my upcoming trip to Italy. I was elated. It had been 17 years since I had last seen my foster aunts and cousins. I was beside myself.  I distinctly remember my trip back to wish my father goodbye and how emotional I was because I knew that somehow I will not see him for a long while. I remember the bus trip back to Yaounde and how surreal it all felt (especially since there was a job interview lined up in Munich).   Me on the bus (in the middle of nowhere) on my way back to Yaounde. Clearly I was too excited to sleep (like someone next to me). I was already missing my lovely Cameroon. On the news, the coronavirus (covid-19) was beginning to show its ugly head in Italy and various other neighbouring countries. My aunt even told me to postpone my trip, but it was too late. I was already packed. Don't mess with a black man and his luggage! Me, mysel...

Affirming in Disagreement

A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare. -  Proverbs 15:1 Do you know how to affirm your spouse even when you disagree? It's a big step in learning how to have meaningful conversations. Take this example: A wife has shared that she is hurt by something her husband has done, and he responds, "I appreciate your sharing your ideas and feelings with me. Now I can understand why you could feel so hurt. If I were in your shoes, I'm sure I would feel the same way. I want you to know that I love you very much, and it hurts me to see you upset. I appreciate your being open with me." This husband has learned the art of affirming his wife even though he may not agree with her perception. Of course, he has a perspective and will eventually share it, but first, he wants his wife to know that he understands what she is saying and can identify with her pain. He is not condemning her interpretation, nor is he telling her that she should not feel up...

Fun time at the Aerospace and Defence Air show

So it was a great time at the airshow whereby Samson got to see favourite toys in 'full-scale' size. This time around, he was accompanied by his cousin which made the event all the more exhausting for the toddler-sitters: my wife and I. Nevertheless, the exciting on their faces was all worth it. I guess the child-like spirit of turning your heads towards the skies, brims with joy and purpose of seeing the great feat of human-kind which has lasting effect. I was pleasantly surprised to see so many people making the trip to the airshow when the country is in such a disarray at government level. Then seeing the exciting faces makes you realize that the pride of a nation is not about those you see on TV or hear on radio: It's got to do the spirit of steadfastness and determination in the little (and not so little) boys and girls that have everything invested in seeing this beautifully diverse country succeed and be a land of equal opportunity for all. Let the dreams be ...
