Proverbs 1 - 31

Search for wisdom and seek understanding for through this you will learn the fear of the Lord. (Pr 2)

Don't withold good from those who deserve it (Pr 3)

Keep my commands and you will leave. Get wisdom, it will cost all you have but strive to get it. Keep them within your heart. For it is the wellspring of life (Pr 4)

Keep your path away from godless woman. May you enjoy in the wife of your yout

Xh. May she satisfy me always. Captivated by her love. For man's ways are always before the Lord. (Pr 5)

Consider the ant and its ways. Bind them upon your heart. For the prostitute reduces you t a loaf of bread. Wow! For truly that's what it is. Based on us spending money on such things, we provide a living for others. For such lacks judfement. (Pr 6)

With her smooth talk, she seduced him. For her house is a highway to the grave. (Pr 7)

To fear God is to hate evil and I hate pride and arrogance. Do I also hate pride in people? For surely it needs to start with me and my household. (Pr 8)

The LORD does not let the righteous go hungry. The memory of the righteous is a blessing. When words are many, sin is not absent. But he who holds his tongue is wise. (Pr 10)

12 There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.

A simple man believes anything. It's so true that when we need to be prudent, we're ignorant. God wants humility and not ignorance.

All hard work brings a profit. For we reap what we've sown. God still expects hard work eventhough he blesses us with everything we need for life. (Pr 14)

4 A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit. Better a little with the Lord, better vegetable where there's love. Humility goes before honour (Pr 15)

Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues with injustice. For surely such principles are almost forgotten even amongst fellow christians. There is a way that seems right to a man,
but its end is the way to death. (Pr 16)

Why should a fool have money in his hand to buy wisdom when he has no sense? He who loves quarrel loves sin. (Pr 17)

whoever makes haste with his feet misses his way. Whoever gets sense loves his own soul. Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will repay him for his deed.(Pr 19)

Make plans by seeking advice. A man's steps are from the LORD; how then can man understand his way? (Pr 20)

better to live in a corner of the housetop than in a house shared with a quarrelsome wife. Whoever closes his ear to the cry of the poor will himself call out and not be answered. (Pr 21)

Rich and poor have this in common. The Lord is the maker of them all. I guess sometimes we feel we can't relate to each other, but God is the ultimate link between all nations. Teach a child the way where he should go. (Pr 22)

Don't withhold punishment from a child. For he will not die if he's punished. We live in a society where our children demand so much yet are ill-disciplined. Punishment of our children is for their benefit. My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes observe my ways. (Pr 23)

It is the glory of God to conceal things, but the glory of kings is to search things out. Like clouds and wind without rain is a man who boasts of a gift he does not give. (Pr 25)

Don't boast about tomorow for you don't know when it will come. Let another praise you and not your own mouth. The prudent see danger and take refuge. (Pr 27)

A rod of correction departs wisdom. A servant can't be corrected by mere words. Don't refuse before I die. The leech has two daughters: give and give. (Pr 29)

Don't spend your strength on woman. A wife of noble character who can find. For there is a bread of idleness which we shouldn't eat. This is a warning for ecetyoje. (Pr 31)

My trip back to Europe in ONE word (Part 1/2) - Coronavirus

It was a normal working day on a hot and usually dusty afternoon in Yaounde when I got the call to come and collect my Visa for my upcoming trip to Italy. I was elated. It had been 17 years since I had last seen my foster aunts and cousins. I was beside myself.  I distinctly remember my trip back to wish my father goodbye and how emotional I was because I knew that somehow I will not see him for a long while. I remember the bus trip back to Yaounde and how surreal it all felt (especially since there was a job interview lined up in Munich).   Me on the bus (in the middle of nowhere) on my way back to Yaounde. Clearly I was too excited to sleep (like someone next to me). I was already missing my lovely Cameroon. On the news, the coronavirus (covid-19) was beginning to show its ugly head in Italy and various other neighbouring countries. My aunt even told me to postpone my trip, but it was too late. I was already packed. Don't mess with a black man and his luggage! Me, mysel...

Affirming in Disagreement

A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare. -  Proverbs 15:1 Do you know how to affirm your spouse even when you disagree? It's a big step in learning how to have meaningful conversations. Take this example: A wife has shared that she is hurt by something her husband has done, and he responds, "I appreciate your sharing your ideas and feelings with me. Now I can understand why you could feel so hurt. If I were in your shoes, I'm sure I would feel the same way. I want you to know that I love you very much, and it hurts me to see you upset. I appreciate your being open with me." This husband has learned the art of affirming his wife even though he may not agree with her perception. Of course, he has a perspective and will eventually share it, but first, he wants his wife to know that he understands what she is saying and can identify with her pain. He is not condemning her interpretation, nor is he telling her that she should not feel up...

Fun time at the Aerospace and Defence Air show

So it was a great time at the airshow whereby Samson got to see favourite toys in 'full-scale' size. This time around, he was accompanied by his cousin which made the event all the more exhausting for the toddler-sitters: my wife and I. Nevertheless, the exciting on their faces was all worth it. I guess the child-like spirit of turning your heads towards the skies, brims with joy and purpose of seeing the great feat of human-kind which has lasting effect. I was pleasantly surprised to see so many people making the trip to the airshow when the country is in such a disarray at government level. Then seeing the exciting faces makes you realize that the pride of a nation is not about those you see on TV or hear on radio: It's got to do the spirit of steadfastness and determination in the little (and not so little) boys and girls that have everything invested in seeing this beautifully diverse country succeed and be a land of equal opportunity for all. Let the dreams be ...
