The Dreamgirls Show needs age restriction

Rato and I went to watch Dreamgirls on Tuesday. It took quite a bit of convincing to come and watch this show but I'm glad I went. The performance really kept the flavour of the movie and singing was mind-blowing. I only had one (serious) drawback... The tickets said "No three years old and younger". But during the course of the show you were getting a sense that this should have been more like "No thirteen years old and younger". Some the scenes had really strong language, some the costumes were very explicit and the penultimate by Jimmy Early made me cringe on the behalf of all the small kids watching. So it made me wonder... Was it just me or did a organizers completely missed how exposure to such things could affect the younger audience. Call me "old school" but after this show, I'll triple check the content of the show prior to bringing a younger audience to the theater.

Growing garbage problem - video

This is a video that I took showing the growing problem of the municipality strikes. Oh the smell!!

Church camp - Electric shock!

I was debating whether I should make this available to everyone, but I "couldn't keep it to myself".

Church camp - Oh the rain!

Hi all, I've uploaded some videos of the church camp on Youtube. In case you were wondering how Bad this camp was.

Be quick to forgive

The title of this post says it all. What drives us to hold grudges for lengthy period of time? I'm not talking about the inability to resolving issues and prolonging a state of "feeling" angry and disappointed. You think to yourself: "How could they?", "I don't deserve this treatment", "No one talks to me like that". One thing that I've noticed (from my extensive experience), is those feelings always revolve around us and the things that were said to us. But been engulfed in this state of self-pity prevents us from really seeing what the problem is or whether there is an ACTUAL problem. Often times, hurtful things that are said do not stem from the conversation but are based on our state of mind at the time. We might have had a rough day at work, we're hungry and grumpy (that's me a lot of times) or we simply don't feel like talking. There could be a million reasons that could spark a hurtful argument. Unfortunately, t...

Camping in the rain anyone?

I've been really worried about the weather patterns lately around Gauteng and the surrounding areas. Let's just say if betting on sunny weather would have been a criteria for winning the Lotto, we all would have been caged-up with our hands chained to the ground waiting for the warlord of the dark nymphs to cast a curse on us (i've been watching too many movies). Anyway, moving on...  The church has planned a camping trip for this weekend and it gotten everyone excited. I must be honest, I'm excited myself but not so with the weather. I decided to put my six senses to rest and check the forecast weather for this weekend. And guess what... RAIN! And not just, as the weatherman puts it, 20 or 30 percent chance, but full on thunderstorms and low temperature! Last time i checked, the only reason someone would deny himself his comfort and warmth was for the cause of following Christ! Camping in the rain is definitely not part of that list. I mean who in their right minds ...

Another Baptism in the Central singles

The single women baptised their first sister yesterday. It seems like there's a greater turn out at baptisms which is proves that we're growing in our spirit of encouragement. Although it was last minute (literally) almost everyone was there. Now that's 'good news' to share! 12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.( Heb 4:12-13 ) For truly the word of God IS alive and active in the single's ministry! It's just amazing to see how the God's word has transformed the Central Single's in a ministry of reconciliation. Seeing two brothers and one sister being added into the kingdom gives me goosebumps.... 21 Those who cleanse themselves from...

When what you don't wish comes true

This is a personal joke with my wife. Really funny. Will share a bit later.

Taking on running

Last weekend, Rato and I decided to buy running shoes (not for decoration, in case your asking). But you know that feeling or whether you've made decision that might have seemed great at the time but has a potential of inducing sever discomfort and pain... well that's how i feel about getting running. Already there's a whispering (you can barely hear it) rumour that we should go for Comrades next year. For someone that hates running, the notion of having to run for 89-90 km is not exactly my cup of tea... I'm not complaining... I'm just saying who in their right minds will choose to run for 10 -12 hours? That's half of day!!! Mind-blogging needless pain! Well, i've got your answer. NOT ME!!!

Connected with linkedin

I've decided to make the right professional 'move' and get connected on LinkedIn. I was actually surprised on how outdated and unconnected i was. But it's all about to change. This is my professional profile picture (that's the best i could do) and i'm going to start behaving in the right manner (yeah right). But seriously, i'm taking a further step in being in touch with the professional world that i often want to run away from. Well, i guess we all got to grow sometimes...

Live out your time as foreigners

"...live out your time as foreigners..." That's the message that really struck me this morning as I was doing my quiet time. This scripture is found in 1Pet 1:17 My mind started wondering away to the lifestyle found in places such as monasteries, the Vatican and Hindu shrines. Does it mean I can't enjoy the pleasantries of life such as good food, time with family and occasional spoiling of one's self. John 10:10 (it really shows I live my life by it) advocates that we should live our lives to the full. Wikipedia describes a extreme notion of this concept as Asceticism . This is defined as (and I quote) "a lifestyle characterized by abstinence from various sorts of worldly pleasures often with the aim of pursuing religious and spiritual goals." The life of solitude (illustrated by the picture above) goes against the very principle of the western society. The need to 'plugged in' (the very reason I'm writing this blog) and to be par...

A weekend of the kingdom, family and friends

What a busy weekend it was. I actually can't believe Rato and I made until the end (i'm just being a tad dramatic) but it was really good. It started on Friday when the single's had a single's devotional movie night. But what a night it was!!! I devised a plan to use the projector and 5 zillion watt amplifier (that's me exaggerating again) to produce a state of the art video/audio entertainment system. We had about 30+ singles there and food to fit the occasion. The inspirational movie we watched really hit home on how we should improve our conversation with God and each other. Not to take life for granted but pursue what makes you really happy. At the end of it, it was a great time of fellowship glorifying God for what he continues to do in our lives. On Saturday, We had friends over with my wife cooking up a storm (as usual, the standard is high)!!! Although the conversations started a bit slow, it got more vibrant as the night progressed. The game of 30 secon...
