Peace with everyone

14   Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.   15   See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.   (Heb 12) The question needs to be... Do I make every effort to promote peace and sense of holiness around me. Am I quick to jump on the band wagon of politics and criticism? Do I turn the "other cheek" when I'm wrongly accused? For a bitter heart spreads like gangrene through all aspects of our lives. Peace and holiness cannot coexist within a bitter heart. And you wonder why some people have trouble sleeping yet are angry with the world!  For to live in bitterness is to condone the very thing that got Christ crucified! Amen

Proverbs 1 - The dangers of Foolishness

I was reading this scripture this morning and i couldn't help feeling that I often act like this person. Thinking that I don't have to study my bible and put it into practice is compared to someone laughing at you when trouble comes to your life. It sounds cruel but God's standard was never meant to make us 'feel' good. 26 I also jwill laugh at your calamity; I will mock when kterror strikes you, 27 when terror strikes you like la storm and your calamity comes like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you. 28 mThen they will call upon me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently but will not find me. 29 Because they chated knowledge and ndid not choose the fear of the Lord,

God's discipline

It says "In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood" (Heb 12:4). It is so amazing that for the first time I look at this passage of discipline in a different light. 7 It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? So the question needs to be: if our endurance of hardships, considered the Lord's discipline (which is out of love for us), is compared to the hardships Christ endured on the cross then... Why do I always complain when hardships come my way and act as if He didn't exist? I always seem to look down and depressed and yet and filled with gratitude everytime I think of what Jesus Christ has done for me on the cross. Forgetting that's the very reason I need to fix my eyes on Jesus, not just to rid myself of sin, but to take on the very attitude he had towards hardships in his life. 12 Therefore lift your drooping hands and ...

Now faith...

"Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." (Hebrews 11:1). Often times I believe that I have faith by what I say and think. But the more I meditate on this scripture, I see that 'being sure' comes with your body language when that situation is mentioned. You don't drop ur head; you still have a bounce in your step. Everything about you says you have a positive attitude towards that situation. "And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him." (Hebrews 11:6). So it goes on a step further and says without that positive attitude and bounce in your step, God will not be pleased. For the source of that confidence comes from acknowledging God's presence in our lives and Him able to do beyond what we can imagine. "Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead, and figuratively speaking, he did receive Is...

Proverbs 28:27

"Whoever gives to the poor will not want, but he who hides his eyes will get many a curse." This scripture made me think on what I've done for the poor this year. Except for the few times I've given money on the street, I haven't made a conscious effort to grow in my giving of my time, mind and money to the cause of the poor. The Bible says there will always be poor people amongst us. So what am I doing about it? As much as I put money aside for church contribution, I should devise plans to help the poor and make them feel worthwhile. I should make time on weekend not just to relax but to give back to those in need. The day is today. Amen

Earnestly seek Him - Call to change

6 And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and mthat he rewards those who seek him. I've read this passage a thousand times and it never fails to ring sound doctrine in my heart. Too often I take it for granted that God is not pleased by mere "Lord, Lord" words coming out of my mouth. Too many times I lack effort in putting structures and plans that will drive me towards Him and His grace. I don't often ask myself "How can I grow in drawing near to God?" or "Does my life truly reflects his existence?". It's so easy to get caught up in the "pattern of this world", so easy to be "polluted by this world" David's charge to Solomon (1Chr 28) 9 “And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a whole heart and with a willing mind, zfor the Lord searches all hearts and understands every plan and thought. If you seek him, he will be f...

A call to persevere

Studying out the book of Hebrews has helped me appreciate the details of God's plan and the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross and how it all ties up together. Chap 9 and 10 go into great theology describing of meaning of the high priest and the sacrifices made by him and howz it relates to Jesus and his purpose. Identifying with how people back then had to live of full of sacrifices and gifts in order to remain right with God has produced gratitude in my heart for the once of sacrifice of the blood of jesus. But what's more scary is that salvation was always meant to come with blood. As it says 'without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness'. It's amazing to think that God was also preparing his heart since the beginning of times, through introducing these rules and regulations, to one day have to watch his only Son become the 'real' sacrifice. Hence the reason why God will not condone those who takes this sacrifice lightly by not changing. For tho...

Ask according to His will

I was doing my quiet time this morning and I stumbled upon a scripture that got me really thinking about my prayer life and whether it's in line with what God expects from me. One person described God as a Microwave. We only use him when we need something done (like quickly defrost meat). So the question is? Do you even know what to pray for? Phil 4:6 says we must present our requests to God. But what requests are those? Do we even have faith that accompanies that request? How can we have faith if we haven't heard the message that is in his word? It is quite clear that our prayer life needs to be based on the faith in God's power, built from the teachings of the Prophets and the apostles. Only then will our prayer life be truly according to his will. For our Lord God is faithful even when we're faithless ( 2Tim 2 ). We are urged to strive for holiness and perfection ( Mat 5 ). We are required to the place our minds on things that are pure and praiseworthy, noble and...
